Scientific name: Pleurotus eryngii
Substrate Preference:
- Best Substrates: Hardwood sawdust, supplemented straw, or a mix of sawdust and wheat bran.
- Growing Conditions: Thrives at temperatures between 18-24°C (64-75°F) with high humidity (85-90%).
Cultivation Tips:
- Incubation: Keep in a warm, dark environment at 20-24°C (68-75°F). Mycelium typically takes 2-3 weeks to fully colonize the substrate.
- Fruiting: Once colonization is complete, move the substrate to a fruiting environment with indirect light, good ventilation, and high humidity. Reduce CO2 levels by increasing fresh air exchange to promote cap development.
Harvesting: Harvest when the mushrooms have small, compact caps, before they begin to widen and flatten. Use a knife to cleanly cut them at the base, taking care not to damage the substrate.
