Scientific name: Grifola frondosa

Other Names: Hen of the Woods

Substrate Preference:

  • Best Substrates: Hardwood logs, particularly oak.

  • Growing Conditions: Maitake thrives in cooler temperatures around 10-20°C (50-68°F).

Cultivation Tips:

  • Incubation: Takes several months for mycelium to colonize wood logs.

  • Fruiting: Keep in a shaded and humid environment to encourage fruiting.

Harvesting: Harvest when the fronds are fully formed but before they become tough.
