Scientific name: Laetiporus

Other Names: Hen-of-the-wood, Chicken of the Woods, Chicken Mushroom, Sulphur Shelf, Sulphur Polypore

Substrate Preference:

  • Best Substrates: Hardwood logs, especially oak or chestnut.

  • Growing Conditions: Chicken of the Woods requires a cooler climate, with ideal temperatures of 16-21°C (60-70°F).

Cultivation Tips:

  • Incubation: Colonization may take several months, as the mushroom needs time to break down the wood.

  • Fruiting: This species tends to fruit after rainstorms or increased moisture. Keep the logs in a shaded and moist environment.

Harvesting: Harvest when the caps are soft and bright orange for the best flavor.
